History and art
in one place
The construction of the Church and the Franciscan Convent dates from the first half of the 15th century in 1416. Inside we can find one of the best examples of the art of gilded woodcarving of the Baroque Johannine, considered one of the most successful works of the carvers of the Portuguese school.

Intervention
and recovery
Built next to the Muralhas Fernandinas, which provide a great view over the Douro River, the access to the Church is done through a Baroque door dated 1697, reformulated in the 18th century, with Renaissance elements such as Salomónica columns and Corinthian capitals. Between 2019 and 2021, a conservation and restoration intervention was carried out, a result of two years of research.
